What’s good, what’s popping everyone! This is my first time doing this so bare with me. Welcome to volume one of a new segment where I do a recap of the past week/weekend drops and highlight my favorite album and song(s). Occasionally, I’ll also cover music still in my rotation weeks later.
This past weekend was loaded with some enticing and chaotic releases. It is clear what release I am referring to as chaotic but I do have a few other things to say about said album. After a series of pump faked release dates and basically touring an unreleased album, Ye finally dropped DONDA. Or, the label dropped DONDA. That’s still unclear to me. A Sunday a release is SO Kanye at this point regardless. Though it was unexpected, it felt perfectly timed for this album to be released early Sunday morning.
In a few words, I feel like DONDA was a solid release. Yes, it’s long but for first time listeners you may be intrigued by this with so many tracks and no features listed. The homie Zach said it best, “Kanye assembled the Avengers of today’s music” to create an album that keeps the reoccurring them of preaching the gospel, Ye rapping about his marriage/divorce, a tribute to his mother and his religious journey through his lens. I’ll be honest there are some skips for me here but also, I do not mind playing this thing all the way through. After running through this project not via a live listening event, I do understand the importance to allow folks to stream it. DONDA isn’t just an audio experience.
I may do a full blown review at some point but best believe the homies and I will discuss the album on the pod. Wait what? SHHHHHH!
Enough about DONDA, What Else Dropped???
Wizkid gave us a Made In Lagos deluxe featuring new tracks such as “Anoti” and the not so needed Essence Remix featuring Bieberveli! So happy for the recent spike in appreciation of this album since it dropped during the heat of the pandemic. Dropping a deluxe was even better of folks who didn’t catch this gem project the first go round.
Lil Tecca triumphantly bounced back with We Love You Tecca 2, which is filled with slaps for any squad link up.
Westside Gunn continues to do no wrong with his 8th installment to Hitler Wears Hermes in “Sincerely Adolf”. This project lived up to my expectations and then some. The production and featured acts also played a factor to this being one of the better rap releases this year.
Thank God Belly dropped this year he was truly missed! See You Next Wednesday I have only given one listen but I liked what I heard for the most part. Belly’s versatility was on full display. I did love the folks Belly collaborated with, many of them being friends of the folks at XO.

These previous releases are getting better per listen & may require a thorough review. Here are the albums that are still in my HEAVY & DAILY ROTATION:
